Throughout my life, learning has been one of my strongest incentives for reading. I want to know more. And now, as a writer, I understand how much learning about so many different subjects can only help me with my writing career. Exposing yourself to the world around you and reading the works of other authors you admire is one of the easiest steps you can take to get to where you want to be in your writing.

I recently read somewhere an author who said she wasn't ready to write a particular book but then when she learned more she knew she could then write it. I feel exactly the same way (and I felt this way about my painting when I was doing more of it). I have had ideas for novels over the years and the more I thought about it the more it seemed beyond my level of knowledge. Or I knew it would involve more research than I was interested in doing at that time. But the more I write (and yes, I pretty much write every day) the more prepared I feel for any writing challenge I can think of. And at this point, my list is getting very long!
