Since my sister-in-law, Kathy, and I both enjoy reading children's books, we are always sharing the latest book each of us have read. Therefore, I was pretty excited when I received "Ghost Knight" by Cornelia Funke in the mail from Kathy.

I had just read a book by Funke, that Kathy had recommended, so I was a little familiar with her writing. This one was different. Ghost Knight was based on mostly real characters from the 1500's and before. Even the main characters of Jon and Ella were taken from real-life characters that Ms. Funke knew.

The story takes place at a boarding school where Jon is sent. Here he meets Ella and together the two embark on a dangerous adventure that includes ghosts in the form of long-dead knights. Late night encounters at Lacock Abbey and other ancient buildings add to the mystery of the historical environment that Jon find himself immersed in.

Even 'The Beard', Jon's archenemy and his mum's boyfriend makes an appearance that eventually changes Jon's intense dislike for the man into an accepting and almost respectful tolerance for the dentist, a change Jon could not have seen ever happening.

A really good story with lots of ancient history woven throughout, the Ghost Knight is a story I will probably remember for a long time.

I rate "Ghost Knight" 5 out of 5 stars.
